My favorite thing to bake this time of year is Gingerful Biscotti. The recipe is from Maida Heater. These days I use 100% whole grain flour from Grist & Toll.
I love making Pfeffernüsse biscuits for Christmas season. One batch makes about 55 so I can share with friends, family and people at work. The 10 spices in the recipe make it delicious and the smell is amazing.
Baking spelt banana bread during the holidays always brings a wave of warmth and bittersweet joy. It reminds me of my late father, who took so much pride in his farm and garden. He’d gather bananas from his banana plant and fresh eggs from his beloved bantam chickens to make the most amazing banana bread. Recreating it now feels like I'm back home—back to his love for the land, his care for every little thing he grew, and the hard earned work he brought to our family. It’s like having him with me again during these special moments.
In this time my fav thing to bake Is definitely "castagnaccio" which is a typical dessert of Tuscany, the region where I live. It's super simple but it's delicious!
I am lucky to have my grandma’s old recipe book and there is a cookie she would always make in her holiday cookie boxes that was her besties recipe. It’s a merengue & ground hazelnut situation baked on a small oblaten wafer. I am not sure what its official name is, but we call it Edith’s cookie and it has always been my fave! It gives me all the nostalgic holiday/family/friendship feelings.
